Presse : Les critiques sont très bonnes:

"The superb new production, which opened on Sunday at the Broadway Theater, certainly honors the show’s ebullience of spirit." Charles Isherwood for New York Times

"Danny Burstein brings exuberance along with wry eyes and an open-heart to his Tevye. His star turn lights the way for everyone." Joe Dziemianowicz for New York Daily News

"Burstein has a delicate, almost motherly touch, kibbitzing with God for laughs and tearing out our hearts by the end. No other actor could juggle the comedy and tragedy masks with such style, such a bittersweet dance with tradition." David Cote for Time Out New York

"The 'Fiddler' that opened Sunday at the Broadway Theatre under the leadership of director Bartlett Sher is vibrant and brilliant and heartfelt." Mark Kennedy for Associated Press

"What a pleasure to see a classic infused with fresh talent, intelligence and emotional vitality." David Rooney for Hollywood Reporter

"Some may take exception to some of Sher’s tinkering with the template of the beloved title, but few will find fault in Burstein’s gentle, lovable man of faith, family and community. What’s not to like?" Frank Rizzo for Variety

Presse : Les critiques sont très bonnes:

"Bartlett Sher’s resplendent production" Ben Brantley for New York Times

"This splendid revival emerges as majestic and intimate simultaneously." Joe Dziemianowicz for New York Daily News

"You can’t overstate how stunningly beautiful, how achingly well sung this new revival of 'The King and I' is." Elisabeth Vincentelli for New York Post

"Nothing is lost in translation; this King and I speaks a universal language of love." David Cote for Time Out New York

"This production of "The King and I" is definitely something wonderful." Jennifer Farrar for The Associated Press

"The mutual fascination and eternal struggle for understanding across the cultural divide between East and West is played out on a magnificent scale in Lincoln Center Theater's breathtaking revival of 'The King and I.'" David Rooney for The Hollywood Reporter

"Broadway’s darling, Kelli O’Hara, is ravishing as the English governess to the children in the royal household of the King of Siam, played by the powerfully seductive Japanese movie star Ken Watanabe. But the production itself, with its operatic sweep and opulent aesthetic, is the star of its own show." Marilyn Stasio for Variety

My Fair Lady (2018-04-Vivian Beaumont Theatre-New York)

Type de série: Revival
Théâtre: Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (New-York - Etats-Unis)
Durée : Se joue actuellement
Nombre : 39 previews -
Première Preview : Thursday 15 March 2018
Première : Thursday 19 April 2018
Dernière : Open end, ouvert actuellement jusqu'au Thu 01 January 1970
Mise en scène : Bartlett Sher
Chorégraphie : Christopher Gattelli
Producteur :
Avec : Laura Benanti (as Eliza Doolittle until Feb 17), Harry Hadden-Paton (as Henry Higgins), Norbert Leo Butz (as Alfred P. Doolittle until Jan 6), Danny Burstein (as Alfred P. Doolittle from Jan 8 to Apr 28), Rosemary Harris (as Mrs. Higgins), Allan Corduner (as Colonel Pickering), Jordan Donica (as Freddy Eynsford-Hill), Linda Mugleston (as Mrs. Pearce), and Clarke Thorell (as Zoltan Karpathy)
Commentaires : The original cast included two-time Emmy Award-nominated "Six Feet Under" star Lauren Ambrose, taking on the lead role of Eliza Doolittle, with "Downton Abbey" and "The Crown" actor Harry Hadden-Paton making his NY stage debut as Henry Higgins, whilst two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz and "Game of Thrones" favorite Diana Rigg have been cast as Alfred P. Doolittle and Mrs. Higgins, respectively.

Marking the first Broadway revival in 25 years, the brand new production is directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher and is another shining example of Sher doing what Sher does best. Following his tremendous successes with South Pacific and The King and I, he has created yet another lavish and nostalgic representation of a timeless classic. With grand sets and elaborate costumes most directors would die for and rousing musical numbers galore, the audience is spoilt by an embarrassment of riches. Sher's interpretation of the ending of the piece may also surprise some attendees, but is actually more in line with the musical's original source material - George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion. Kudos to Lincoln Center Theater for once again proving itself as the frontrunner in staging Broadway musical revivals.
Presse : "The plush and thrilling Lincoln Center Theater revival or Lerner & Loewe's My Fair Lady reveals Eliza Doolittle as a hero instead of a puppet — and reveals the musical, despite its provenance and male authorship, as an ur-text of the #MeToo moment. Indeed, that moment has made My Fair Lady, which had its Broadway premiere in 1956, better than it ever was." Jesse Green for New York Times

"Broadway’s My Fair Lady takes you to showtune heaven in a new production that’s both opulent and daring." Joe Dziemianowicz for New York Daily News

"We’ve grown accustomed to the grace of Bartlett Sher’s revivals of American stage classics, but that doesn’t mean we should take them for granted. Working in blessed harmony with his trusty creative team—including set designer Michael Yeargan and costumer Catherine Zuber—Sher is not an iconoclast or radical re-sculptor; instead, he acts as a restorer, leaving the shows on their pedestals but stripping off years of obscuration to reveal layers the works have possessed all along. So it is with the splendid new Lincoln Center Theater revival of My Fair Lady." Adam Feldman for Time Out New York

"There's a breathtaking visual in Lincoln Center Theater's new My Fair Lady when Lauren Ambrose emerges as Eliza Doolittle, transformed from common-as-muck flower girl into regal stunner, done up to attend the posh Embassy Ball... Comparable delights intoxicate the eyes and ears throughout this sumptuous staging from Bartlett Sher, a director who has proved to be among the very best at chiseling surprising nuance out of vintage musicals." David Rooney for Hollywood Reporter

"If you’ve got it, flaunt it. The splendid Beaumont stage at Lincoln Center was made for great classic musicals like Lerner and Loewe’s My Fair Lady, and helmer Bartlett Sher was born to stage them. This jubilant revival is meticulously mounted and entirely welcome – despite the eccentric casting choice of Lauren Ambrose as Eliza Doolittle." Marilyn Stasio for Variety

Ryder Smith (Jonah Jorgen Holst/Finn Grandal)
Commentaires : One of 2016's best reviewed plays, J. T. Rogers' Oslo transfers to Broadway in 2017. This Vivian Beaumont Theater staging retains all of the Off-Broadway cast, including two-time Tony winner Jennifer Ehle (The King's Speech, The Coast of Utopia) and Tony winner Jefferson Mays (I Am My Own Wife, A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder). Tony winner Bartlett Sher, who oversaw the latest Broadway revivals of The King and I and Fiddler on the Roof, directs
Presse : "Even if you never thought about traveling to Norway, you’ll probably want to visit the inevitably titled “Oslo,” the absorbing drama by Mr. Rogers... At a very full three hours, with many international stops, this play is long and dense enough to make you wonder if you should have packed an overnight bag. Yet what Mr. Rogers and the director, Bartlett Sher, have created is a streamlined time machine, comfortably appointed enough to forestall jet lag." Ben Brantley for New York Times

"As America and the world hurtle toward greater polarization, the play provides a small measure of hope. It’s about recognition, too, of what Rød-Larsen and Juul were able to build: a quaint lighthouse in the fog of war." Adam Feldman for Time Out New York

"This is a play alive with tension, intrigue, humor, bristling intelligence and emotional peaks that are subdued yet intensely moving, which concludes unexpectedly on a poignant note of hope." David Rooney for Hollywood Reporter

"“Oslo,” a new drama by J.T. Rogers, is unequivocally fascinating. Would that some playwright would write as gripping a play about some contemporary political issue." Marilyn Stasio for Variety

Version 10

South Pacific (2011-08-Barbican Theatre-London)

Type de série: Revival
Théâtre: Barbican (Londres - Angleterre)
Salle : Theatre
Durée : 1 mois 1 semaine
Nombre :
Première Preview : Monday 15 August 2011
Première : Tuesday 23 August 2011
Dernière : Saturday 01 October 2011
Mise en scène : Bartlett Sher
Chorégraphie :
Producteur :
Avec : Samantha Womack (Nellie), Paulo Szot (sharing the role of Emile), Jason Howard (sharing the role of Emile), Daniel Koek ( Lt Joe Cable), Alex Ferns (Luther Billis), Loretta Ables Sayre (Bloody Mary)
Commentaires : This production opened in 2008 at New York’s Lincoln Center, running for two years and winning seven Tony Awards. The show had been re-created for a UK tour starting at the Barbican. With a 25 piece orchestra, it featured the Brazilian baritone Paulo Szot and Loretta Abies Sayre from the original New York production. Paulo Szot was replaced by Jason Howard for the first three weeks of September. The production received three Olivier nominations, including Best Musical Revival, but won none. During the post-Barbican tour various cast changes included Rebecca Thornhill as Nellie Forbush, Matthew Cammelle as Emile de Beque and Jodi Kimura as Bloody Mary. The tour has been extended to at least August 2012, when it will plays Sheffield Lyceum, after which it is booked for a two week run in Dublin.
Presse : "It's a perfectly decent revival of a Rodgers and Hammerstein classic but with little of the pizzazz."
Michael Billington for The Guardian

"Though not quite as lavish as the original Lincoln Centre production, this touring version with beautiful South Sea island designs and a fine 25-piece pit orchestra making the most of the brilliant score, still proves a moving and uplifting experience."
Charles Spencer for The Daily Telegraph

"Somewhere along the line he [director Bartlett Sher] has managed to eliminate both the romance and the fantasy."
Paul vale for The Stage

"Polished rather than dazzling - lyrical, occasionally beguiling but not truly powerful."
Henry Hitchings for The Evening Standard

"Though it is undoubtedly a very good, immensely thoughtful production...it doesn’t dazzle in the way one might expect. It is beautifully sung and delivered with plenty of zest and energy, yet it still seems a little stiff and emotionally restrained."
Sarah Hemming for The Financial Times

"For all the talk of how the production draws out the darkness of the racial issues by reincorporating discarded material, this comes across as a highly accomplished, but faintly bland and traditional treatment. ..Unfortunately, there's next to no sexual chemistry between the two leading performers. That's symptomatic of a production that seems to have lost something in crossing the Atlantic and is deficient in that spark that turns respect into rapture."
Paul Taylor for The Independent

Commentaires longs: Delayed previews twice in order to allow the creative team and cast to work on the complex cinematic transitions between scenes.
Limited engagement. The limited run was to have ended on 1/23/2011 but closed early.
During previews: "My Crazy Heart" opened the show and was performed by the Women. / Where "My Crazy Heart" is now, there was a reprise. / "Madrid" opened the second Act. / "Shoes From Heaven" was the original finale.
Presse : NEW YORK TIMES REVIEW: "They’re giving out the wrong drug at the Belasco Theater, where “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” opened on Thursday night. As in the 1988 Pedro Almodóvar movie that inspired this star-jammed musical, Valium is consumed in large quantities by many characters. That is so pharmaceutically irresponsible. What this production needs — immediately and intravenously — is Ritalin. "
